Can Cross Selling Be Harmful?

September 9, 2009 by C.F. Jackson

Can cross-selling a book or a product really be marketing suicide? Frankly in my opinion, yes it can. When visiting a website and seeing near the bottom “customers who bought this book also like” or “we also recommend reading” or “frequent purchases with this book” tend to be quite irritating. What this exposes to me is more of a marketing ploy than taking the actual time to understand your customer’s needs.

Okay so you bought a book and may need some other compelling texts on your website to market along with your newly (or soon-to-be) published work. This is not exactly the best way to go about your book marketing. You have now indicated that you don’t feel confident that your new text can lure your intended audience and you need a “big name” to bring it in. Moreover, often times I believe most have not even read texts which they cross-sell. It may be the same subject matter or be from the same author or have a term such as “Chinese seamstress” in the title so both texts must share the same likeness right? Of course we all know this not to be the case.

Final Thoughts: It would be in your best interest not to cross-sell your first of many texts with other irrelevant material. If you feel the need to cross-sell at least do so with your own works. If you are having trouble coming up with that next big idea, join a book club or attend a seminar for some inspiration. By doing this, you can easily fill the pipeline and start on your road to success!

Why Turning a Website Visitor into a Subscriber is Important

July 8, 2009 by C.F. Jackson

Do you know about the number seven, when it comes to book marketing? To turn a web visitor into a customer it would take at least seven times to see your ad, product, and/or service to build trust and brand recognition with you.

Here’s something to think about. When an individual visits your website and leaves, it’s very likely that they won’t return, even more so without any enticing or compelling reasons to do so. Think about it.  There are so many distractions just on the Internet alone. So many that we can lose our train of thought in just 90 seconds. Can you imagine remembering a website from two days ago?

The point is this: It’s very unlikely a website visitor will return. Let’s say you receive traffic of 1,000 website visitors to your website, but they leave and don’t return. Think about the possible lost in profits and sales, due to the fact that they don’t come back. Look at the possibility to have converted a percentage of the visitors into new clients or customers.

Creating quality content is the popular strategy in order to keep website visitors coming back. Often times, quality content isn’t the answer. The ultimate long-term solution lies in converting a website visitor into a new subscriber so you can start building a relationship.

The ultimate goal for any website owner is this:

1. Collect names and email addresses

2. Generate Sales

You’ve generated your first sale when your visitor makes the decision to subscribe to your mailing list. Now, this is your opportunity to follow up with them and allow them to:

- Know
- Like
- Trust you

At the end of the day, the goal is to convert as many website visitors into subscribers as possible, then convert this into potential revenue as you build a strong rapport through emails.

Top Ten Getting Started Tips to Market Your Book and Business

January 28, 2009 by C.F. Jackson

I came across this article that was written back in 2005 and the content of it has not changed as to what must and can be done to market a book online.

Take a moment read the article, then share your thoughts and feedback so we can talk about it.

Hope you enjoy!

Have an awesome day,
C.F. -

Top Ten Getting Started Tips to Market Your Book and Business

Want to sell a lot more books? Want clients calling every day to find out more about your service? Most emerging businesses forget the #1 way to promote anything–the Internet. Specifically, writing and submitting articles.

These ten Tips will help you write a winning article that top ezines and Web sites will want to publish.

1. Include your non-fiction book’s chapter how to’s or your fiction’s juicy chapter excerpts in your articles. Your book coach encourages novelists as well as self-help authors.

2. Keep your articles around 200-800 words each. Remember today’s audience likes short copy. They want it one, two, three.Online writing is so different from what print magazines want.

3. Keep your article focused on just one thesis or point. That means mindmap your article or make a linear outline what points to keep before your write it. A plan helps.

4. Create a hook for your two or three-sentence introduction. Notice this one asked you a few questions to engage you.

5. Forget the old school of writing for print magazines and getting paid. Follow the Internet way– give your article away like Mrs. Field cookie samples, so people who read them and notice your signature file will want to visit the site where you sell your book.

6. Keep yourself out of it. Your audience wants to know what you can do for them. Replace those “I” constructions with “you.” “If you are like me….”

7. Number the main points for clarity. People love easy to read tips. Remember tips have a format that pros know. Start with a command, follow it with a benefit for doing it, and follow that with examples of how.

8. Collect ten well-edited articles before you blast off. Online readers will look at you more seriously when they see you offer more than one quick thing. They will see you as the savvy expert and click to where you sell your book.

9. Leverage one article into five. Change your audience. Change your number of how to’s. Three Tips to… or Five Tips… or The Two Best Ways to….

10. Remember free information is the reason people go to Web sites, so put your articles there as well as in a blog.

Once you get dozens of short articles or fiction excerpts out to no spam ezines or top web sites in your field, you will notice the search engines optimizing your site because they see your important key words that link you, your book, or your service together. Your submitted articles lead to the magic of “viral marketing.” The thing is that this is attraction, natural marketing at its best. Your coach’s URL and signature file is now on over 33,000 Web sites.

How To Sell Your Own Self-Published Books

January 14, 2009 by C.F. Jackson

How is it possible to sell your own self-published book with 692.3 million books
reported by Nielson BookScan as being sold in 2007? This is a 5% increase from
the previous year.

Publishers Weekly, 1/14/2008

Publishers Weekly, 1/14/2008

It has been reported by Publisher Weekly that the internet is the dominating factor
when it comes to bookselling. In 2007, 35% of book purchases during the nine-
month period reviewed by Publisher Weekly were generated by direct-to-consumer
(internet, book clubs, book fairs, other).

As a self-published author, the ability to sell your own books through the WorldWide
Web makes it more achievable. The internet brings authors, entrepreneurs, artists,
etc. to an even playing field. This vehicle makes anyone with a website accessible
to a global population.

Just within the second quarter of 2008, the Census Bureau of the Department of
Commerce stated that the total number of internet users worldwide was
1,463,500,000. This is a large audience accessible to your website 24 hours a day
and 7 days a week.

That isn’t all.  As a self-published author, there are customers out there waiting and
wanting to find you on Google, Yahoo! or MSN. Consumers are still purchasing each
and every day.  Within the second quarter of 2008, retail sales increased by 0.9 percent
over the first quarter of 2008.  This is equivalent to $1,034.8 billion USD.

How do you sell your own self-published books? The answer is the internet. With the
proper website fundamentals, strategies, techniques, and resources on learning how
to sell your book online, as well as learning how to market a book, it is possible. In
addition, you will have access to a larger, worldwide audience.

Why is the internet a powerful vehicle for any self published author?

- Low cost to start and operate
- It’s open and available 24/7
- Worldwide marketplace
- You are your own publisher and boss
- It offers flexibility – You can do business anywhere
- Offers the ability to advertise for free
- The internet is the fastest growing industry ever

The ultimate goal for the self-published author is to create the ultimate results online,
which includes having your target audience:

1. Find Your Website: Out of the more than 1,463,500,000 websites. This can be done
through website fundamentals and techniques.

2. Like You and Like Your Book: Once you’ve been found, it’s time to be part of the
$1,034.8 billion in sales by having a website that includes the proper elements and
strategies to generate action.

3. Buy It – Your book:  Achieving one and two, the excitement comes when your visitor
buys a copy of your book.

Today, the fastest growing vehicle with an all-access pass to the world is known as the
Internet and the Worldwide Web. As a self-published author, learning how to sell your
book online
is the key answer to how to sell your own self-published books.

Book Marketing Strategies With Matt Bacak

Just a few weeks ago I engulfed myself into over
40 hours of seminars: personal, financial, business,
and internet developement.

The bulk of my 40 hours came from the three day

online
, how to market a book, and website marketing
optimization tips

I learned about Matt Bacak in 2005 when I attended
an event here in Atlanta. I’ve shared my story of how

back in June of 2005 is when I decided to learn more about what I
truly needed in order to be successful online. And since then I’ve
been studying, learning, implementing, and invested in coaching
from those who are successful online. I’ve enjoyed the results from
the knowledge I have and continue to gain.

Since 2005, I’ve had the pleasure to hear Matt Bacak speak and
teach many times. But on this day December 7, 2008 it was an
honor to have the opportunity to speak with him so I could
introduce him to you.

So take a few valuaeable minutes to tune in and to learn a key
strategy you should be implementing online and how to put it

Book Marketing Online: Delilah’s “Stupid Human Trick”

December 3, 2008 by C.F. Jackson

Normally I post an article with strategies that
I’ve written or stumbled across on the internet
on the topics of book marketing online or how
to sell fiction online
.

Today, I want to share this video with you.
I came across it the other week in a forum.
Someone shared it with the community, so I’m
sharing it with you, my community.

Now, what would make you want to share this with
any one you know. The fact is that Delilah is a well
known radio host and also an author. She has been
“killing” herself to get on the David Letterman Show.
So she taking it up a notch in this video.

My question is this: When it comes to book marketing
does this tatic or strategy make anyone want to tell
a friend about it?

Watch the video! Just Click Below

Delilah’s “Stupid Human Trick”

They turned off the embedding option on the video
which henders the ability to create a word of mouth
movement and draw more traffic to the author. Video
is so powerful and viral.

What would you do to get on the David Letterman Show
should you be given one time to present something
extreme, out of the box, or just crazy! ;o)

Enjoy it!

Won’t Be Denied,
C.F. Jackson
