How to Market a Book-How to promote a bookMany people find my website while
searching for ways on how market a
book online. Like every other entity
online it’s about names and emails.

Today, we’re covering one of the
simplest book marketing technique
that’s many overlook when marketing and promoting online.

The key to remember is this: “Most people don’t make a
purchase on the first visit. It takes between one and seven
times.”

It’s about providing value. I mentioned this last week!

Is Your Book Cover a Hit or Miss With Readers?

August 26, 2009 by C.F. Jackson

So your manuscript is sold and you have sent it to a publisher for touch-up. What is missing? Ah…it’s a cover for your new glorious text. Well…what’s the big deal I can let my publishers take care of that aspect right? Not so fast. You’re the author. Therefore, you have the granted power to make authorial decisions. Do not leave it strictly in the publisher’s hands.

What lures most potential customers to buy a book? Is it the content? Sometimes it may be the content. After all, myself I like to read the synopsis of the book before making my purchase decision. But ultimately it is the book cover right? Much like the old adage “you eat with your eyes” the same is true for books. Something with visual appeal regardless of the content is much more likely to be sold over a drab cover.

However, you may have that colorful eye-catcher in mind but does it fit with the story? I cannot tell you how many times I’ve run across texts that have a cover which is may consist of vivid imagination and then the story’s plot may be that of a funeral or disease. By this point I am thinking “Whoa there. If that wasn’t even planned well, how will the book read?”

This is perhaps the most over-looked marketing technique when it comes to marketing your book. And the fact is, publishers like when you can incorporate your own idea or even your own design because that’s less work for them to do. If you know a graphic designer or what’s more are one; perfect! You are now on your way to making that book jump off the shelf or off the web page a little quicker!

Search Engine Submission is one of the most basic and practical techniques anyone can implement.

This is an inexpensive method of traffic generation through the use of search engines. The action is just as it reads, which is submitting your website to search engines. There are two types of search engine submission – manual and automatic.

- Manual Search Engine Submission – the process of visiting each search engine and submitting your website, by filling out the required information.

- Automatic Search Engine Submission – completing the require fields, the software or web based service would forward the information to other search engines

A few other practical techniques to increase website traffic to your website are:

- Banner Advertisement

- Classified ads

- Text links

- Section sponsorship

These techniques will cost more, but these methods will help you reach your target audience wherever they frequent the most on the internet.

3 Practical Ways To Boost Your Book Sales

Why Turning a Website Visitor into a Subscriber is Important

July 8, 2009 by C.F. Jackson

Do you know about the number seven, when it comes to book marketing? To turn a web visitor into a customer it would take at least seven times to see your ad, product, and/or service to build trust and brand recognition with you.

Here’s something to think about. When an individual visits your website and leaves, it’s very likely that they won’t return, even more so without any enticing or compelling reasons to do so. Think about it.  There are so many distractions just on the Internet alone. So many that we can lose our train of thought in just 90 seconds. Can you imagine remembering a website from two days ago?

The point is this: It’s very unlikely a website visitor will return. Let’s say you receive traffic of 1,000 website visitors to your website, but they leave and don’t return. Think about the possible lost in profits and sales, due to the fact that they don’t come back. Look at the possibility to have converted a percentage of the visitors into new clients or customers.

Creating quality content is the popular strategy in order to keep website visitors coming back. Often times, quality content isn’t the answer. The ultimate long-term solution lies in converting a website visitor into a new subscriber so you can start building a relationship.

The ultimate goal for any website owner is this:

1. Collect names and email addresses

2. Generate Sales

You’ve generated your first sale when your visitor makes the decision to subscribe to your mailing list. Now, this is your opportunity to follow up with them and allow them to:

- Know
- Like
- Trust you

At the end of the day, the goal is to convert as many website visitors into subscribers as possible, then convert this into potential revenue as you build a strong rapport through emails.

5 Ways To Improve Sales Through Your Website

July 1, 2009 by C.F. Jackson

Almost everyone who has been marketing online knows that the lifeblood of book marketing and internet marketing is the traffic of a site. More visitors equal more sales. However, here are some ways that you can tweak your sites with to improve sales as you continue to strive to get more visitors.

The first method is to weave in your personal touch in your sales message. Nobody wants to be sold to by a total stranger, but many people will buy what their close friends recommend to them. If you can convince your audience that you are a personal friend who has their best interest at heart, they will be convinced to buy your books, products, or services. Remember to speak to an individual in your salesletter, not to your whole audience.

The second method is to publish testimonials and comments from your customers. A good idea would be to publish both good and bad comments; that way potential customers will be really convinced that these testimonials are real. When potential customers see testimonials on your website, they will have the confidence to buy from you because human beings follow the herd mentality; when others have bought and proven it authentic, they will jump on the bandwagon and buy too.

Use visual representations for the problems and solutions that your product offers. Not everyone will read your text copy from the head to the tail, but most people will pay attention to images, video and audio on your website.

Offer quality bonuses to accompany the product. When you offer bonuses that complement your product, your potential customers will feel it’s a very good deal and it would be stupid to miss it. Be sure to state the monetary value of your bonuses so that people will be even more compelled to grab your good bargain.

Lastly, ask for the sale! Many people entice their potential customers with the benefits of their product, sell to them with stories of how it has solved many problems, even offered killer bonuses but forget to ask for the sale. Give a clear instruction on how to buy your product (e.g. “click the button to buy now!”).
